When a floor is to be laid in a house with a long history, the choice is rarely about trends.
In the forester’s residence next to Widtsköfle Castle, the choice instead fell on a three-layer glued oak floor from Kullaberg Flooring – a floor developed with origin, longevity and sustainability as its natural starting points.
Oak from our own forest
The family naturally chose to make the floor from wood sourced from their own forest.
“As foresters, it feels natural to use wood when you know where it comes from. It’s part of the whole idea of managing the forest in a long-term, sustainable way,” they say.
When the decision to renovate was made, it was important not to compromise on either quality or sustainability – and the choice of supplier therefore became crucial. The family discovered Kullaberg Flooring through a personal recommendation, which gave them extra confidence in their choice.
“We needed a reliable partner who could help us refine our forest into a beautiful floor that will last over time. Kullaberg Flooring felt both trustworthy and quality-assured.”

A collaboration that begins in the forest
Kullaberg Flooring and Widtsköfle have a long-term partnership that extends beyond this particular floor. During harvesting, Kullaberg Flooring has the opportunity to select the logs that meet the quality requirements for long and wide plank flooring – something only a small portion of the trees can provide.
The collaboration includes both oak and pine, and the floor at Carl-Georg and Kristina’s home is an example of how timber from Widtsköfle can be refined locally, with quality and long-term sustainability as its foundation. At the same time, Widtsköfle actively works with replanting, ensuring that at least as many new seedlings are planted each year as the number of trees harvested.

A floor adapted to the house
As the renovation took shape, it was important that the new floor would work in harmony with the house’s older details. The wide planks and longer lengths were chosen to stay close to the feel of traditional wooden floors, and on the ground floor the boards were made extra wide to harmonize with the proportions of the rooms. By preserving thresholds and original features, the older interior doors could also remain – allowing the renovation to be based on the house’s existing character rather than altering it.
Easy to maintain and built for everyday life
The floor is treated with a natural hardwax oil, providing natural protection while allowing the character of the oak to remain. A solid wood floor is a living material: warm and comfortable to walk on, and something that ages in a way that suits a house with history. Now that the floor is in place, it also feels like a reminder of the entire chain behind the material.
“Seeing wood from Widtsköfle become part of the home in this way feels both beautiful and meaningful.”
The result is a home where new and old interact, with the same long-term perspective that characterizes both the house and the surrounding forest. For Widtsköfle, the floor is therefore not a temporary interior detail, but a natural part of a stewardship that extends across generations.
