Flooring as an essential design element
Building and construction have always held a special place in Anders Olsson’s heart. For over 20 years, he ran a paper wholesale business. Since selling the company, he has focused on other types of projects, such as developing villas and properties.
He shares with us his new path in life:
“Buildings and construction projects have always fascinated me. So, when I discovered some property in Malmö’s Western Harbour – the former site of the iconic Kockums shipyard – I knew I had to make a difference. Today, the area is home to a tenant-owner association and five completed and sold villas.”

Flooring as an essential design component
Building and how to build has a special place in Anders Olsson’s heart. For more than 20 years, he built a paper wholesales business. Since he sold the company, there have mostly been other types of projects, such as developing villas and properties.
He tells us about his new track of life.
“Buildings and construction projects have always interested me. So, when I came across some property in the western harbour of Malmö – a place where classic Kockums once lay – I decided to make a difference. Today, you find a tenant-owner association and five completed and sold villas there.”

Modern villa by the sea
We’ve arranged to meet Anders Olsson in Kämpinge Bay, near Höllviken, where he lives with his wife, Pia, in a sleek, modern villa with a functional, minimalist design. The setting is idyllic, with tranquil views of the sea just outside their windows, yet Malmö is only 15 minutes away.
Wide planks and herringbone
When it came to choosing the floors, their expectations were high.
“We first met Fredrik from Kullaberg Flooring at a trade fair. His stand was small, but he instantly understood what we were looking for. I was impressed by his expertise, responsiveness, and flexibility. It also felt reassuring knowing that his timber came from his own forest.”
This meeting led to a beautiful floor in their turn-of-the-century villa—a floor with a slightly worn-in look, featuring planks of varying widths. When they later built their new home, they once again chose Kullaberg for their flooring. This time, they went with wide planks arranged in a herringbone pattern, with a border plank running throughout most of the house. Kullaberg also crafted a custom wooden staircase on site.

We have decided to meet Anders Olsson in Kämpinge bay, by Höllviken. There he lives with his wife Pia in a functional, modernistic style villa. The setting is idyllic with the sea and the tranquillity outside the windows. And the city of Malmö is only 15 minutes away.

When choosing floors, the expectations were high.
“We met Fredrik at Kullaberg Flooring at a trade fair. He had a very small stand, but he immediately understood what we were looking for. I was captured by his skills, responsiveness, and flexibility. It also felt sustainable and safe as his lumber came from his own forest.”
The meeting resulted in a beautiful floor in their turn-of-the-century villa. A floor with a slightly worn feel, using planks in different widths. When they later built a new house, the choice of floor went to Kullaberg again. This time with wide planks in a herringbone pattern, with a border plank throughout most of the house. In addition, Kullaberg built a wooden staircase on site.
Choice of materials and colour scheme
When asked if Anders would ever consider using a flooring material other than wood, he laughs.
“I’ll admit, we have stone floors in the bathroom, but that’s purely for practical reasons. And yes, we have carpet in the bedroom, but that’s about it.”
Anders views the floor as a key element of the overall interior design, with careful attention given to both material selection and colour scheme. He draws inspiration from a variety of sources, often visiting furniture fairs for fresh ideas.

When asked whether Anders would consider any other floor material than wood, he laughs.
“I have to admit that we have stone floors in the bathroom, but it is more for practical reasons. And yes, we have carpet in the bedroom, but that’s all.”
Anders sees the floor as an important interior part of the whole. These include material selection and colour scheme. He draws inspiration from many different sources, often at furniture fairs.

Wood creating life and movement
The whole family is pleased with the result, but is there anything in particular they’d like to highlight?
“I’d say it’s the personal touch. But also, the product itself—this floor is as rustic and authentic as it gets. The feeling of walking barefoot on it is so comfortable and soft. The rounded edges of each floorboard add a sense of life and movement to the space. We also have two large dogs, and the floor holds up really well.”
The importance of proper floor installation
Anders has a few tips to share when choosing a floor.
“The floor should complement your overall style and suit the character of the house. And don’t forget about the installation process itself. It’s crucial to lay the planks in the right direction. Fredrik has the expertise to get it right and is always happy to share his knowledge and experience.”

“I would say the personal feel. But also, the product itself, it can’t be more rustic and authentic than this. The comfortable and soft feel of walking barefoot on the floor is wonderful. And the soft edge of each floorboard creates a sense of life and movement. We also have two large dogs, which the floor handles very well.
The importance of laying floors
Anders would like to send along some tips to remember when choosing a floor.
“The floor must fit into your whole style and match the character of the house. Also, do not forget about the actual laying of the floor. It is important that the planks are laid in the right direction. Fredrik has that knowledge and is happy to share from his experiences.”
