The floor crowns the cosy atmosphere
Since 2016 he has lived on his own island in the Stockholm inner archipelago. The only way there is by a private bridge. He really appreciates the sea and the privacy. And when he feels like it, it is only 30 minutes to Stureplan. Anyway, it’s his floor we came here to talk about.
Pelle Magnusson works daily with land and contracting. His love of flooring has evolved over the years. He blames his sister-in-law for getting in touch with Kullaberg Flooring.
“She lives in the south of Sweden and has a Kullaberg floor in her house. It intrigued us enough to book a meeting with Fredrik. We had the basic idea, but Fredrik took it further and designed the floor layout.”
The result is a floor perfect for their home, a new and modern archipelago style house.
The floor completes the cosy atmosphere
Since 2016, he’s lived on his own island in the Stockholm archipelago, accessible only by a private bridge. He deeply values the sea and the privacy it offers. And when he feels like it, Stureplan is just a 30-minute drive away. But today, we’re here to talk about his floor.
Pelle Magnusson works daily with land and contracting. Over the years, his appreciation for flooring has grown. He credits his sister-in-law for introducing him to Kullaberg Flooring.
“She lives in southern Sweden and has a Kullaberg floor in her house. It piqued our interest enough to schedule a meeting with Fredrik. We had a basic idea in mind, but Fredrik took it further and designed the floor layout.”
The result is a floor that’s perfect for their home, a new house built in the modern archipelago style.
Maximum wow factor
In the hallway, a wedge-shaped plank floor was installed, following the original plank design. Upstairs, a visible seam ship floor was laid. However, the detail that likely grabs the most attention is the rounded design border that separates the floors from the stairs.
“True craftsmanship by Fredrik at Kullaberg—he’s an expert at carpentry. The wow factor is off the charts!”
The floor is originally treated with a clear hard wax oil.
“It’s not only beautiful but also practical.”
Maximum possible wow factor
In the hall, a wedge-shaped plank floor was installed, using the shape of the original planks. Upstairs a visible seam ship floor was laid. But the detail that perhaps attracts the most attention is the rounded design border separating the floors and the stairs.
“A real craftsmanship by Fredrik at Kullaberg, he is really good at carpentry. Maximum possible wow factor!”
The floor is originally primed with clear hard wax oil.
“It’s really nice. And practical.”
Tasteful, yet subtle
All the floors were carefully selected to match the character of the house. The holistic approach is important to Pelle.
“I want it to be tasteful, but not flashy. With the right materials, everything should be authentic and functional. For example, we have a two-ton cast iron staircase and a fireplace that can be seen from three sides.”
The look and feel of a floor are, of course, important, but it also needs to be pleasant to walk on. Pelle understands this and mentions that he enjoys walking barefoot on the soft wood floor, which is, of course, equipped with underfloor heating.
A personal touch
The first meeting with Fredrik was a pivotal moment in their flooring choice.
“We were down in Skåne, hoping Fredrik might be home, but we only met his very lovely mother. A few days later, we returned and met Fredrik. We brought along drawings, which we later developed together with him. Everything felt very personal. Just like the flooring solution we ended up with.”

– I want it to be tasteful, yet not flashy. With a good choice of material, all genuine and functional. We have, for example, a two tonne-cast iron staircase and a fireplace that can be seen from three directions.
The look and feel of a floor is of course important, but it must also be nice to walk on. Pelle recognises this and says that he likes to walk barefoot on the soft wooden floor. A floor of course supplied with underfloor heating.

Choosing the right flooring
Pelle is happy to share his insights on selecting the right floor.
“Take your time, do your research, or consult Fredrik when it comes to everything from choosing the floor to installing it. It’s reassuring to have Fredrik involved in the project. He’s passionate about his craft, knowledgeable, and truly dedicated. And even though a high-quality floor might cost a bit more, you get so much more in return.”
Pelle also wants to take the opportunity to make a suggestion to Fredrik and Kullaberg Flooring.
“You should open a showroom so more people can see and experience these beautiful floors, the craftsmanship, and all the incredible stories behind the forests, trees, and lumber.”

“Be thorough, read up on floors or consult Fredrik when it comes to anything from choosing floor to laying it. It also feels safe to have Fredrik in the project. He is passionate about the craft, is knowledgeable and genuinely committed. And even though a nice floor may cost a little more, you also get a lot more.”
Pelle also wants to take the opportunity to suggest something to Fredrik and Kullaberg Flooring.
